Step away from your hectic schedule and into Nubian Roots by Toya beauty salon suite. From the moment you walk through the door, you enter into an environment that prioritizes relaxation and rejuvenation.

Most of you are very familiar with the traditional salon set up, however at Nubian Roots by Toya things are done a bit differently as it is a Salon Suite.

Lets’s expalin the difference. In a traditional salon set up there is a lot of hustle and bustle with multiple stations and workers. The Salon Suite is a private setting which caters to clients that appreciate one-on-one interaction with the stylist/technician. In a traditional salon, walk-in clients can be accomodated, while in the salon suite, your services can only be done by appointment.

New clients are required to book a consultation before being able to book a service.

LETS TALK STARTER LOCKS

AT THE SUITE

For the past 15 years, locks and dreadlock styles have been trending all over the globe with the help of social media. During this time, awareness for the style has grown tremendously and a lot of persons have come to the suite for starter locks. At Nubian Roots by toya, there are various options available when coming to locks, including the way that it is started. Because there is a wide variety of hair types, lengths and difference in hair density, I believe it is best that you start your lock journey to suit these factors. Starting your locks the wrong way can make it more stressful than it really is. Understanding your hair and your options is very important, and with my years of experience I’m here and happy to help you with that.

Nubie Starter Locks

Basic starter locks are done using two strand twists. The roots are palm rolled or interlocked depending on size,hair density or what is desired by the client.

BASIC STARTER LOCKS

Teased starter locks are cultivated by teasing or back-combing the hair lightly and the roots are palm rolled or interlocked. This method is usually done on persons with hair types 1-5, but can be done on all hair types.

TEASED STARTER LOCKS

Crochet starter locks are done by weaving the hair a together using a crochet needle. The roots can be palm rolled or interlocked. This method is used for starting traditional or some “mini” loc sizes.

CROCHET/INSTANT

Nubie Lock Categories

Nubie Interlocks are traditional locs. At Nubian Roots by Toya traditional sized locks are usually the size of a marker or even thicker (sizes vary on hair density) ranging from 30-80 strands.

NUBIE INTERLOCKS

Still traditional locks however, these are usually the size of a pencil (sizes vary on hair density). The Nubie mini category consists of person’s with a loc count of 80-130 locks.

NUBIE MINI

Nubie Microlocks are tiny locks that usually have a loc count of 130-300+ locs. Your loc count varies depending on your hair density.
